Amarillo, Texas - This year, sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday.
It's a nationwide push to stay away from the big box stores and instead, shop small.
We spoke with some Amarillo store owners who say when you're out there buying Christmas presents this weekend, remember to support the local little guy, because the entire community benefits.
Janey's at 2500 Janey Morgan says, "Most of the city's revenue comes from sales tax of the local businesses. That's what pays for the streets, the fire department, the trash pickup, everything that we kinda take for granted that just's there."
Hill's Hallmark and Silverland's Cynthia Allison agrees. "If the dollars stay here, we have a wider variety of businesses and goods. Our unemployment rate is lower. It can even ultimately, affect the housing market."
For every $100 a locally-owned business brings in, it's estimated they return $68 back to the community.
It's also estimated that small businesses have created 65% of the new jobs in the past two decades.
