Amarillo, TX - Hundreds of area children are asking you to open your heart this holiday season, to make their holiday better.

Last year about 1500 local children were adopted for the holidays, but this year the demand has increased.

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree program has a tree at the Westgate mall right now where you can pick a child, and buy them Christmas gifts.

The Angel Tree program is expecting to help up to five hundred more children this year, compared to last year, And they are hoping you can help fill the increased demand.

"Hopefully folks will come and as they shop, they'll pass by the tree, they'll be able to take an angel and do the best they can. You know for the kids that come to us and the families in need, that's all we ever hope for. Kids, when they apply they have these big dream toys," said Major Tim Grider.

Without the Angel Tree, Major Grider says some children may not get a toy.

To adopt  a child for the holidays you can go to the Westgate Mall, Texas Roadhouse, BL Bistro or Shoe Carnival during regular business hours before December 9.
