Amarillo, TX - Buying your gifts this holiday season at local stores will benefit the Amarillo area in ways you may not realize.
Sales tax revenues are the highest they have been in Amarillo for the last five years, and officials say that is helping you live in a safer place.
Amarillo has had an almost nine percent increase in sales tax dollars coming into the area, and with each percent the city is able to hire more vital workers.
To help that trend continue, officials ask you to spend your money locally.
"One additional percent would fund eight firefighters to be added, it wouldn't fund the vehicles but we would be real close with two percent, so truly this is a deal, where every little bit counts and every little bit lets us put back to the community and meet those basic needs," said Jarrett Atkinson, Amarillo's City Manager.
