Tucumcari officer resigns after reports of a relationship with a minor

Tucumcari, NM- A Tucumcari police officer has resigned after the New Mexico State Police launched an investigation into him.

A veteran officer was having a relationship with a 16-year-old girl according to the Law Offices of Daniel Lindsey.

The law office says the officer, while in uniform and on duty was having a sexual relationship with the girl and sending inappropriate photos and emails to her.

The photos were reportedly sent to the girl's father and the New Mexico State Police.

The Tucumcari Police Department says they are cooperating with the state police in their investigation.

The officer formally resigned from the police department Friday.

His name is not being released.
