Amarillo, Texas - Tonight marks day 1 of a 40 day vigil at a downtown Amarillo park. Pro-life supporters have gathered there to spread a simple message: end all abortions in the United States and heal those who have had one.

There was no yelling, no protesting, and no arguing, just a peaceful gathering of those fighting to end abortion. They will spend the next 40 days praying for their cause.

They've set up camp across from the Haven Health Clinic where there are no abortions performed. But these pro-life supporters say the site still has significance to their cause.

Stephanie Frausto with Respect Life Ministries explains, "This is the first place they come in contact with so we are always here to make sure that we can interfere and intervene in that situation."

But they're also hoping this year's "40 Days for Life" campaign will bring about the change they're looking for.

David Grisham with Repent Amarillo says, "We're hoping this year, maybe this place in Amarillo will close. We're hoping some more abortion clinics will shut down. We're hoping some more pro-life laws will be passed, and we're hoping more Christians will get involved."  

While they prayed and sang songs, several also shared their testimonies, because they're not just pushing to end abortion, but to also heal those who have had one.

Frausto says, "The time will come when Roe v. Wade will be overturned but the work isn't complete then either. We still have a lot of reparation to make in regards to so many abortions."

Frausto says The Church is playing a major role in changing the laws as they become more politically involved. But others say only small steps have been made toward their goal.

Grisham explains, "There is a long ways to go as long as there are still abortion clinics in the United States and people are still killing babies... about 3500 to 4000 a day."

If anything, they hope this campaign can change the minds of some.
