Wednesday is World Alzheimer's Day. 5.4 million Americans suffer with the disease. An estimated 350,000 of those people live here in Texas.
It's a growing problem that has continued down the wrong path. The number of people with Alzheimer's is more than those battling breast and colon cancer combined.
Regional Director Tracy Sommer's with The Alzheimer's Association says a growing number of senior citizens are expected to develop disease.
"More people are getting heart disease and diabetes and that is linked to Alzheimer's," she said.
"The trend will continue to grow as long as those diseases grow."
Scientists' are working on a cure but don't expect a medical breakthrough for another decade.
