Amarillo, Texas - We all remember where we were on September 11, 2001, but for the youngest Americans who weren't alive to witness the tragedy, there's a huge piece of our history they don't fully understand.
With the exception of a few fifth graders, the kids at Lawndale Elementary School have only known a post-9/11 world.
So on September 9, they had a memorial ceremony, aimed at not only teaching the kids about that dark day in our history, but also what we can learn from it.
Principal Chad Huseman says, "A lot of patriotism. We really saw America come together that day and since then. I think lessons of life and what it means to lose life, especially in that magnitude and for those reasons."
One of the Amarillo fire fighters spoke, talking to the kids about how this should remind them to never take anything for granted, telling them to cherish your friends and family.
