Downtown revitalization funding announced

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Amarillo's latest downtown revitalization plan continues to take shape.

The funding plan for three major changes to Amarillo's downtown landscape means these changes are becoming more likely.

These changes would include a full service hotel across from the Civic Center, a multi-purpose event venue where Coca-Cola's distribution center currently stands, and a parking garage on
either side.

With these changes, the new venue would be the new home for the Amarillo Sox and the Coca-Cola distribution center would be moved to a more rural part of Amarillo.

The developers say the projects make sense for the city and people of Amarillo so they are looking to move forward.

"As it relates to actually building those first two structures, you would see us breaking ground at the second quarter of next year and with an ultimate opening during the third quarter of 2013," says developer David Wallace.

These changes are still in the proposal stage, in the coming days the Local Government Corporation will be showing this plan to city commissioners who will make a determination.
