Cold Case File: Carolyn Karp

NewsChannel 10

AMARILLO--- The owner of an Amarillo bar is murdered inside her own home. Decades later, police have yet to make an arrest.

In the early morning hours of July 11th, 1992, Amarillo fire crews battled an East Amarillo Boulevard mobile home fire. When the fire was put out, they found the badly burned body of 56 year old Carolyn Karp inside. She was then owner of The Sneak Joint, a bar right next door to her home.

"They ordered an autopsy and found that Karp didn't die of the fire,  but had been shot.' said Lt. Gary Trupe with Potter-Randall Special Crimes

According to Lt.  Trupe, Carolyn Karp may have been the victim of a robbery. The belief is the fire was intentionally set to her home to cover up her murder.

"All the contents inside were pretty much burned to the ground, then you have the water used to put out the fire...it just pretty much ruined all chances of having any evidence collected." said Lt. Trupe.

Lt. Trupe says investigators have only received a few tips to help solve the case.

If you know anything about Carolyn Karp's murder, you are urged to call Potter Randall Special Crimes at 806-378-9468.
