Sports Minute: Here is the latest Texas sports news from The Associated Press

FRISCO, Texas (AP) - Jason Witten and the Dallas Cowboys held a training camp practice for thousands of fans at team headquarters, a first in the storied franchise's history. While Dallas has held preseason workouts at its stadium about 35 miles from the posh new practice facility, now the Cowboys have a 12,000-seat indoor stadium that means fans won't have to travel as far as California to see America's Team get ready for the regular season.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer and Cole Hamels pitched seven effective innings as the Texas Rangers cooled off the Los Angeles Angels with a 5-3 victory.

HOUSTON (AP) - D'Onta Foreman's performance through Houston's first two preseason games has many raving about the rookie. Texans coach Bill O'Brien is not among them. "That's the second preseason game ... I think he's got a lot of talent but I think he's got a long way to go," O'Brien said.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - South Florida could be on verge of realizing its potential as a college football power. The Bulls are ranked in the Top 25 and brought in coach Charlie Strong to meet the high expectations. The Bulls' No. 19 preseason ranking matches the highest in school history, and Strong relishes the opportunity for a fresh start after being ousted by Texas after three tumultuous seasons.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Chiefs' quarterback situation has been near-flawless in two preseason games. Alex Smith has been the consummate veteran, Patrick Mahomes II has dazzled as a first-round draft pick and even third-stringer Tyler Bray has had his moments. It's been enough to make Kansas City coach Andy Reid feel giddy about the position.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) - Lane Kiffin and Florida Atlantic are offering second chances to many, like former Baylor coordinator Kendal Briles. The Owls' roster and coaching staff feature plenty of names of people who have encountered issues along the way to Boca Raton. Briles was the coordinator at Baylor under his father while the school was rocked by a sexual assault scandal.

NEW YORK (AP) - Dallas Wings forward Glory Johnson has been suspended one game for throwing a punch at Atlanta Dream guard Matee Ajavon during a game. Johnson made a fist and took a swing at Ajavon as the two tangled with Ajavon trying to defend Johnson late in the fourth quarter of the Wings' 90-86 win at home. Johnson will serve her suspension Wednesday against Connecticut.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - Adrian Beltre hit a three-run homer and Cole Hamels pitched seven effective innings as the Texas Rangers cooled off the Los Angeles Angels with a 5-3 victory.
