Texas - The Texas House voted Wednesday to deny state funds to public hospitals that perform elective abortions or "abortion-related services."
The measure would deny funding to any hospital that uses locally generated taxes to help pay for abortions, except those required in medical emergencies.
The provision is one of two anti-abortion measures tacked on to a large health care bill needed to balance the state budget.
Last month, lawmakers in a conference committee stripped a similar provision from a medicaid overhaul bill...
But they say that amendment was much broader because it applied to all hospitals and clinics.
