Progress being made in Randall County fire

Canyon, TX- A massive wildfire continues to burn south of Canyon.

The fire in the Sunday Canyon and Ceta Canyon area has been burning for almost 48-hours but progress is being made.

The fire is now fifty-percent contained.

The rough terrain and location of the fire has made it difficult to fight.

Air crafts were sent out Thursday morning and all afternoon to drop fire retardant on the blaze.
Bruce Palmer with the USDA Forest Service says crews from all across the nation are helping with this blaze and to ensure everyone is kept safe.

"The major efforts are on the northeast and east side of the fire in anticipation of a wind shift this afternoon, so want to strengthen those lines along that part of the fire and also to keep it from dropping down into the canyon," says Palmer.

The good news is, the wind is expected to stay calm, which will help the firefighters make even more progress.

There has been some damage to buildings in the area but there is no exact word on the extent at this time.
