Fires in the Panhandle region

There were several fires burning across the area Tuesday including Deaf Smith County, Randall County, Swisher County, Roosevelt County and Curry County.

Deaf Smith County/Randall County:

As of 6:30 P.M. officials say the fire is mostly contained with crews continuing to monitor for hot spots.

There is a fire burning in Deaf Smith County, at this time 7,600 acres have been burned, the wind continues to push that fire.

The fire is burning almost due east along CR 1259, it has now crossed the Randall County line.

Twenty-five homes are threatened.

It was caused by a down power line.

Texas Forest Service bulldozers and engines have responded.

Swisher County:

As of about 6:30 P.M. officials say the fire is nearly contained.

A 1,500 area is burning three miles west of Tulia.

Officials say five homes, five structures and one airport are threatened.

Interstate 27 is closed due to the fire.

Exit 1 into Tulia is also closed due to an accident caused by the smoke.

9:00 P.M.

I-27 near Tulia continues to be closed due to heavy smoke.

Roosevelt/Curry County:

The New Mexico State Forestry says the Black Water Fire has burned 2,200 to 2,500 acres. The Emergency Management Coordinator says crews in the area are making good progress.

It is near US 70 NM 202.

There is no word if structures are still threatened.

Dallam County:

Firefighters in Dallam County continue to battle a large range fire.

The Dalhart Fire Department says the fire is North of Highway 385 towards the Oklahoma state line.

There is no word on the extent of the damage at this time.

The fire department says no structures have been lost and there have been no injuries reported.

Randall County:

7:22 P.M.

There is a fire burning near I-27 and Washington, near Cemetery Road.

Officials say one structure is lost and five others are threatened.

The Randall County Sheriff's office is asking those east of Washington near 217 to evacuate.

9:00 P.M.

The fire continues to burn in and near the Palo Duro Canyon, the Randall County Sheriff's office says to avoid the area.
