Houston, TX - Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is said to be doing well after undergoing surgery yesterday in Houston to replace a portion of her skull.

This comes after an asassination attempt in January in Tucson.

Doctors replaced part of her skull which was removed to relieve brain swelling.

The hole was covered with a custom-made plastic implant.

Giffords husband and astronaut, Mark Kelly, provided a long distance update on his wife's condition.

He said she was doing well and getting back to therapy today.

Outside experts say that this surgery is a milestone in Giffords' recovery.
