Texas wrongful conviction bill

NewsChannel 10

Texas - A bill authored by local Attorney Jeff Blackburn has passed the Texas Senate.

The eyewitness ID bill would require Texas law enforcement agencies to use a stricter more uniform method in using eyewitness identification.

It was one of several measures passed related to improving the criminal justice system.

Nearly 75% of wrongful convictions have been due to mistaken eyewitness identification.

Another provision attached to a separate bill would expand post-conviction DNA testing.

The bills are now headed to the House for approval.
