Texas prison funding

NewsChannel 10

Texas - Texas budget negotiators have agreed on prison funding that would give as many as 30-thousand corrections officers a raise and force the closure of the first Texas prison in the state's history.

The measure includes shutting the central unit in Sugar Land in order to save money.

The Department of Criminal Justice says the closure would save an estimated 25-million dollars over two years.

It would also retain the system of raises for thousands of corrections employees.
