Grand jury: no criminal intent by Colorado state senator

Channing, TX- The Colorado state senator involved in a fatal car wreck near Channing will not face criminal charges for the incident.

The investigation into the wreck took about five months and was handed over to the Hartley County Grand Jury Wednesday morning.

Once reviewed they decided no charges were necessary.

The collision happened the day after Christmas when Williams hit a vehicle driven by Eric Gomez on Highway 385, killing expecting mother, Brianna Gomez.

69th District Attorney David Green says the grand jury had numerous things to look at, those details are held secret by Texas law.

"All of the facts and circumstances, I can tell you this, were covered and the grand jury determined that there were no criminal charges to be brought, I cannot talk about any specific or facts that were presented to the grand jury," says Green.

Green says he will urge the department of public safety to issue citations for not having everyone in the vehicle restrained.

There is a possibility for civil suits to be filed in the case.

The district attorney says he is pleased with the outcome in this case.
