Help needed feeding families

AMARILLO, TX - A critical donation drive for the High Plains Food Bank kicks off on Saturday.

With high gas prices, more families are having to choose between food and fuel. The food bank tells NewsChannel 10, right now, its resources are tapped and the organization is in need. We're told volunteers don't even have much to do, because there is not a lot of food in the warehouse.

"Unfortunately these empty shelves are becoming common. We are about to go into a heavy season because school is getting out and now families have to come up with three meals instead of providing one meal." said Broc Carter with the High Plains Food Bank.

The food banks says that's why Saturday's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is so critical.  You can help by staying at home. Just go through your pantries, take out some non-perishable items and place them on your door step before Saturday morning. A postal worker will then take the food to the High Plains Food Bank.
