Oxytocin may be an important hormone for pregnant women to monitor.

In a study of more than 70 healthy pregnant women, researchers found those who had lower Oxytocin levels in their third trimesters had an increased risk of developing Postpartum Depression within two weeks after giving birth.

Doctors say Oxytocin is important in breast milk production and mother-child bonding.

Up to a fifth of new moms can suffer from some form of Postpartum Depression.
