Latest crime spree has area hotels increasing security

Amarillo, Texas - Three armed robberies in three days at hotels in Amarillo, have many places double-checking their security measures.

The Holiday Inn on I-40 East is not part of the latest crime spree, but they have been robbed in the past. Since then, they have made security their number one priority.

24-hour surveillance cameras with live feed on and off property, a large staff and night patrol, and exterior doors requiring a room key, are some of the newest features. While they feel well protected, they are surprised hotels are being hit.

Holiday Inn representative Melody Crapser says, "It's really odd that people are selecting the hotels to rob, because there's not a lot of cash on hand. There are drops that are done continuously. A lot of payments are done by credit cards."

She believes hotels right off the interstate provide an easy escape for prospective robbers.

The suspects in all three robberies are still at large and police say the cases could be connected.
