Trans fat ban in Texas schools

NewsChannel 10

Texas - Texas schools may soon be forced to rid their lunch menus and vending machines of all trans fat food products.

The state senate passed a bill aimed at the bad eating habits of many schoolchildren in Texas.

The measure would prohibit school districts from supplying food that contains industrially-produced trans fat.

The Texas Department of State Health Services found nearly a third of all high school students in the state were obese.

In addition, Texas is ranked seventh among the states in childhood obesity.
