AMARILLO, TX - An Amarillo woman is stabbed to death and nearly 14 years later police are still not sure who is responsible.
Investigators tell NewsChannel 10, in August of 1997, 45-year-old Gloria Covington was found dead in a field behind the North Branch YMCA. According to detectives, Covington's body was found partially naked and she had been stabbed numerous times in her upper body.
"We don't know for sure if she was out there walking or if she may have been in a motor vehicle of some kind there was tire tracks seen out there. It was obvious Gloria was able to run or walk away for a little bit of time after she was injured due to the trail that she left before she actually collapsed and died." said Lt. Gary Trupe with Potter-Randall Special Crimes
It is believed Covington was a prostitute and her murder may have been connected to her occupation. In the beginning of the 14 year old investigation, detectives did have people of interest for Covington's murder. However, police have never been able to make an arrest.
If you know anything about Gloria Covington's murder, you are urged to call Potter-Randall Special Crimes at 806-378-9468.
