Sand dune lizard could affect oil production

NewsChannel 10

West Texas - The sand dune lizard living in West Texas could put a halt to the state's oil production.

Texas remains the number one producer of oil and natural gas in the country.

Last December, the Fish and Wildlife Service submitted a proposal to declare the sand dune lizard endangered.

The president of the Permian Basin Drilling Association says that listing the lizard as endangered could put a stop on drilling, seismic testing, road building and pipelines.

This halt could last a few years in order for the feds to study the habitat.
