The Navy SEALS who killed Osama Bin Laden are being hailed as heroes...

And now we are learning more about the men who carried out the dangerous mission.

Officials say it was a 24 man platoon, specialized in counter-terrorism, who prepared for the mission by training on a full-scale replica of the compound.

It was so secretive, the SEALS were not initially told who was the real target.

Officials say two Blackhawk helicopters descended on Bin Laden's compound where they killed his son and a woman who was used as a human shield.

Bin Laden was reportedly killed with two shots, one in the head and one in the chest.

"We give thanks to the men who carried out this operation. For they exemplify the professionalism, patriotism, and unparalleled courage of those who serve our country," says President Obama.

Officials say 23 children and nine women were in the compound where Bin Laden was killed.

They were reportedly turned over to Pakistani authorities.

Bin Laden's body was taken by SEALS to an aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea, where it was buried in the ocean.
