Amarillo, Texas - The goal this weekend is to save lives of premature babies across the Panhandle, but The March of Dimes needs your help to do it. Saturday morning marks the 25th anniversary of the March of Dimes walk in Amarillo.
The event raises money for premature babies... Which are becoming more and more prevalent... one out of every eight babies born in our region is premature.
Those babies born too early often have under-developed lungs, among many other problems, that could, in some cases, be deadly.
In hopes of changing that, the March of Dimes has a brand new message for all moms-to-be.
Organizer Vicki Brooks says, "I just want to encourage you not to do elective c-sections, and to allow that baby to complete it's growth. A baby's brain prior to 39 weeks gestation has a lot more developing to do."
If you'd like to take part in Saturday, April 30th's March for Babies, there's a run at Thompson Park at 8:30am.
Registration is from 7 to 8 and it costs $30.
