NFL quarterback Michael Vick and the Humane Society are teaming up against a smartphone application that they say promotes dog fighting.

The app is called "Dog Wars" and lets players feed, water, train and fight their virtual dogs against others.

The app's creator says it is only a video game, but animal activists say the game could be used as a virtual training ground for would be dog fighters.

Vick was once the NFL's highest paid player but was arrested in 2007 and convicted on dog fighting charges.

He served 18 months in federal prison and has since returned to the league as a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
