NewsChannel 10

Texas - Legislation that could give harsher punishment to those convicted of abuse towards children, elderly and the disabled is one step closer to becoming law.

House Bill 1601, which is authored by State Representative Four Price of Amarillo has passed the house unanimously.

It allows courts to stack sentencing for abusers consecutively instead of concurrently.

The bill now heads to the senate for a vote.
