Cold Case File: Waldemar Kossokowski

NewsChannel 10

AMARILLO, TX - An Amarillo father is beaten to death and almost nine years later, police can not say who is responsible.

"It was obvious he had been assaulted." said Lt. Gary Trupe, with Potter-Randall Special Crimes.

According to investigators, in August of 2002, 43-year-old Waldemar Kossokowski was found beaten to death in an alley behind what used to be the YMCA downtown branch.

"In the area he was found, they recovered an instrument they believe was used to inflict injuries on him." said Lt. Trupe.

Police were able to track Kossokowski to the alley thanks to a witness who may have seen him.

"They heard some kind of yelling, and then what they described as some glass breaking."  informed Lt. Trupe.

However, investigators have not been able to solve who beat him to death. It is believed, the Amarillo father could have been the victim of a robbery.

"Whatever he had, it wasn't worth taking his life for. If it was some cigarettes and alcohol, it wasn't worth taking his life over."

NewsChannel 10 spoke with his daughter who did not wish to go on camera, but tells us her father was violently taken from her when she was just 16 years old. Over the last 8 and a half years, he's missed many milestones in her life. It's pain she says, that never goes away.

"I am sure his daughter would love to be able to say what happened to her father and why and put closure to that time period." expressed Lt. Trupe.
