New Mexico: New fire restrictions

NewsChannel 10

New Mexico - The windy dry weather is taking an extreme toll on New Mexico... Parts of the state haven't seen any real moisture in 150 days.

Eastern New Mexico is dangerously dry... And now, along with most of the state, is under new fire guidelines.

Smoking is allowed only in enclosed buildings, developed recreation areas, vehicles with ashtrays on paved roads and in areas that have a three foot radius clear of flammable material. Fireworks are prohibited.

Campfires are banned in all open areas in New Mexico State Park, with a few very specific exceptions.

Open fires are restricted... The only exception is for open burning on crop lands that are irrigated.
