Amarillo, Texas - A driver going the wrong way down I-40 caused an accident that shuts down the interstate for nearly seven hours Sunday.

Amarillo Police say it happened around two Sunday morning... A 2003 Dodge Neon was traveling west bound in the east bound lanes in the 11,000 block of I-40.

Reports show the car hit one semi-truck, then careened into another... The Neon's driver was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries.

One truck driver had a few minor injuries and the other walked away without a scratch.

The interstate finally opened back up again around 8am.

Officers say alcohol was a factor.
