Austin, Texas - Lawmakers are battling it out in Austin right now... Trying to agree on a finalized state budget.

We've been hearing about the massive budget deficit for months now, but this is the first time we've actually had a clear, specific picture of what's on the chopping block... in the House of Representative's version.

Education takes the hardest hit... The proposed budget slashes $5 billion in general funding... Gets rid of pre-kindergarten, eliminates funding for background checks of school employees, and takes away 30% of funding for textbooks.

It reduces the number of students getting Texas grant scholarships from 86,000 to 27,000. Money towards community based programs for the elderly and disabled.

The budget zeroes out $6.7 million from a program to help autistic kids... But maintains funding for deaf and blind children.

It cuts $4 million in underage tobacco enforcement grants, but provides $10 million for obesity prevention.

The House is expected to pass the budget sometime late Sunday... Then the Senate will pass their own version, and the two will be combined to create a final state budget.
