Potter County and Randall County health comparisons

Amarillo, TX - Potter County is ranked one of the least healthy counties in Texas, while Randall County is ranked as one of healthiest.

One of the things that sets these two counties apart is the amount of sexually transmitted diseases and the rate of teen pregnancies according to recent numbers in a new health ranking report.

Potter County has a significantly higher amount of teen pregnancies compared to Randall county, almost three times the amount.

H-I-V cases in Potter are ten times the amount of cases in Randall.

Ron Barwick the CEO of Texas Panhandle Family Planning says some cases of sexually transmitted diseases are also at an alarming rate.

"The chylamydia rate for example in Potter County is roughly twice the national average and it's the second highest county in Texas and the gonorrhea rate is the third highest county in Texas and it's maybe three times the national rate," says Barwick.

Barwick says there are plans to increase programs in our area to help educate the public on these risks.
