St. Mary's is officially a Cathedral

AMARILLO, TX - St. Mary's is now officially a cathedral. Today bishops, archbishops, and Daniel Cardinal DiNardo of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston were present to elevate the church into cathedral status.

Hundreds of faithful attended the afternoon mass at St. Mary's, which was also streamed live online.

St. Laurence served as the cathedral seat of the Diocese of Amarillo for 36 years and it gave its final mass as a cathedral last night.

The diocese made the decision to change the cathedral to St. Mary's because of seating capacity.
