Man dies in fall from roller coaster in Houston

HOUSTON (AP) - A roller coaster accident on the final day of this year's Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has left one person dead and another hurt.

Spokesman Leroy Shafer says a 46-year-old man died Sunday night after falling about 28 feet from the carnival ride set up as part of the annual expo. Shafer says the man hit a person walking by. The person on the ground suffered a broken ankle.

Names of the victims were not immediately released.

Investigators will try to determine how the rider fell from the roller coaster. Shafer says he personally got into the car after the accident and could not determine any malfunction.
