Texas woman freed after nearly 2-week abduction

CORSICANA, Texas (AP) — A rejected suitor is charged with abducting a Texas woman at gunpoint and assaulting her at his home for nearly two weeks.

Authorities say the 62-year-old woman ran out of the man's Corsicana house screaming after they went there, acting on a tip.

Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler said Monday the woman was abducted from her home more than 100 miles away in Parker County on March 1.

He says the woman was shackled and beaten for 13 days. Fowler says he doesn't know how much longer the woman could have made it.

Jeffrey Allan Maxwell has been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault. He was arrested Saturday when the woman was rescued and was later transferred to the Parker County jail. Maxwell doesn't yet have an attorney.
