Amarillo, TX- Amarillo's cowboy culture has landed it on American Cowboy magazine's best places to live in the West list.
It was announced Wednesday, Amarillo is one of the best places to live in the West.
The Amarillo Convention and Visitor Center President says Amarillo was chosen because all of the trappings you associate with the West, are still here.
Gary Molberg, President and CEO of Amarillo's Chamber of Commerce says an award like this will attract people to visit our tourist areas, like Palo Duro Canyon and the Big Texan.
Molberg adds, people who are relocating may consider Amarillo when choosing their new home.
"Anytime we get a prestigious award, you know, things start happening. People will start coming to our website. Every time we receive a prestigious award, whether its Amarillo economic development, Amarillo Chamber, or the convention and visitors council, we see an uptick in our websites. More people pay attention, they look at it, and right now we have some businesses that are trying to grow, well this is a great award to have for people relocating here," says Molberg.
When choosing the top twenty, we are told the magazine looked at outdoor appeal, historical significance, population, land price and the number of Western events held throughout the year.
Amarillo is the only town in Texas chosen for the 2011 top twenty places to live in the West.
