Amarillo, TX- Preliminary autopsy results for the man found dead in the parking lot of the Big Texan shows he died from a gunshot wound.

At this time investigators say the death of Rex Stephens will be investigated as a homicide, until further testing is done.

Police say Stephens, a truck driver from Hickory Flats, Mississippi, was found by officers lying behind a semi in the north-rear parking lot of the restaurant Sunday morning.

He reportedly had signs of a head injury.

Investigators say a handgun has been recovered from the scene.

Lieutenant Gary Trupe from the Special Crimes Unit says they are not ruling out suicide at this point.

"I'm not ruling out anything right now, I don't know if this could have been a self inflicted gun shot wound, there is details that we see at the scene that pro and con that theory," says Trupe.

Lieutenant Trupe adds they will be checking surveillance video in the area, to help piece together what happened.
