Amarillo, TX - Amarillo College students will soon become part of an elite group of students in the United States.

Amarillo College is one of the most recent institutions to join the Achieving the Dream program.

Doctor Russell Lowery-Hart, the college's Vice President of Academic Affairs says the program will help students to complete their degrees and in turn achieve academic success.

He says part of the program will be implementing new policies to ensure A.C. students get as much out of their education as possible.

They hope that students will notice some changes now that they are part of the institution of achieving the dream.

"It means that they can get through their degree plans faster, can have classes that meet their needs academically and socially that allow them to find success in those classes so they graduate with higher GPAs," says Lowery-Hart.

He adds students will spend less money on their college education, because they will spend less time in school.

He says the main goal is to make sure more students leave with a certificate or degree and are prepared for their career's or further schooling.

He also says being part of this nationally recognized program is a defining moment for Amarillo College.
