Amarillo, TX - On the first day to file for candidacy for Amarillo offices, one controversial name comes into play.

Repent Amarillo's leader David Grisham filed paperwork Monday to run for mayor of Amarillo.

Grisham says his main concerns as mayor would be to ensure safety for the citizens, including; hanging ordinances dealing with the downtown revitalization, rules regarding bars and bringing back family values to the area.

Grisham, who is best known for his attempt to burn the Quran,  acknowledges some may disagree with his stance on certain subjects, but he is running anyway to set an example.

"We have a few people that are supporting us, as word gets out, I'm sure there will be some that do and many that don't. I mean I have a lot of as well and I understand that. So whether I get elected as mayor or not, it's still a win-win situation, because really part of the reason I am doing this is to set an example for other Christians, need to be involved in local politics, they need to be involved in their community, they need to be involved in the culture," said Grisham.

Grisham says he will be doing most of his campaigning on Facebook and other social networking sites and also by being in the streets talking to people with his group Repent Amarillo.
