Teen Click It or Ticket campaign launches statewide

AMARILLO, TX - A mangled pick-up truck is making its way across the state, to show teens about the dangers of driving without seat belts.

It's all part of the teen Click It or Ticket campaign that was expanded statewide this year. Two teenagers were able to walk away with just minor injuries from what's left of the destroyed pick-up truck. Both of them credit their seatbelts with saving their lives.

The teens donated their truck to the Click It or Ticket campaign to raise awareness.

"In counties that had the teen Click It or Ticket program they saw a 6% increase [in seatbelt use], so it is making a difference to those kids" said Tracy Tellman, Traffic Safety Specialist with TxDOT.

According to Tellman, in 2009 314 teens were killed in accidents where they were not buckled in. The mangled truck just returned from a trip to El Paso and will be making its way to Lubbock tomorrow.
