Fight crime with a new phone app

Amarillo, Texas - It's a brand new way you can report crime in Amarillo. Reporting crime is now high-tech thanks to a new iPhone application called TipSubmit.

The application allows tipsters to report crime by selecting the appropriate law enforcement agency and the type of crime. You can then fill in details about a crime or a suspect.

But the most important part for investigators is the ability for tipsters to take and send photos and video in the same application, says Corporal Slover. He explains, "If they took video of it or a photo of it and they were submitting that tip while they were there, they could actually send the GPS coordinates of the location where they're at."

Just like other forms of submitting your tips to Amarillo Crime Stoppers, you will remain completely anonymous. Corporal Slover says, "It comes in to me as a mobile tip only, so I don't get any phone numbers. I just get a number which starts with a "M," which stands for mobile, and our agency I.D., and then the number in sequence of how we receive our tips."

The application also allows tipsters and law enforcement to communicate about the reported crime further than the original tip, still on an anonymous basis.

The TipSubmit application is free and can be found in the iTunes store. Corporal Slover tells us this application should be available to Blackberry and Android phones in the near future.
