Amarillo, TX - One man is behind bars and another is in the hospital with life threatening injuries following an officer involved shooting in downtown Amarillo.
Officers say they heard shots fired, while responding to a call about a fight in the 700-block of Polk around two this morning.
They approached a man, who witnesses say was involved in the shooting.
That man is 27-year-old Michael Manyoun, who reportedly ran from police, and in the process dropped a handgun.
He was taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault and evading arrest.
While police pursued Manyoun, they say three other men believed to be involved in the shooting got into a black SUV and started driving towards the officers.
Several officers approached the vehicle, repeatedly telling the driver to stop.
When the driver did not comply, they fired shots at the vehicle.
"The driver was struck by gunfire at some point, we don't know if it was during the exchange in the parking lot or by the officer's gunfire out in the street. The man driving the vehicle has been taken to a local hospital, he has life threatening injuries. We don't know the extent or the number of injuries that he has," said Sgt. Brent Barbee.
Two other people were inside the SUV at the time, one was shot in the arm, but has been treated and released.
The other was not injured. All the officers involved are now on standard administrative leave.
