Amarillo, Texas - The Coffee Memorial Blood Center is extending their hours for the first time on a Saturday, this weekend. The Coffee Memorial Blood Center is taking steps to be prepared for the bad weather expected to roll into the region next week, by allowing for more donation time tomorrow.

Although the need for blood is not yet critical, the blood center fears the bad weather may bring low donor turnout in Amarillo.

The center is also depending on two out-of-town blood drives set up for next week. They are concerned the snow could keep those from happening. Suzanne Talley says, "Because they're out of town and we're looking ahead at what the forecast is saying, our blood supply is stable now, but it can use come work. So going into that, we want to be not just stable, we want to be built up."

Talley says the main reason for stocking up on blood, is the concern of serious accidents that happen during bad weather. It's these accidents that can require massive amounts of blood and the need to be prepared.

The extended hours at the Coffee Memorial Blood Center this Saturday are from 8 AM to 4 PM.
