CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say two people cleaning out the home of a relative who'd died found a body stuffed inside a chest freezer.
The Eddy County Sheriff's Department says the cleaners loaded the freezer into a pickup truck after the discovery Monday night and took it to the Carlsbad Police Department.
Carlsbad police turned the case over to the sheriff's office because the home was located in the county.
Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Zuniga says the remains at first were thought to be those of an animal, but then were determined to be human.
The state Office of the Medical Investigator in Albuquerque will rule on the cause of death.
No name has been released.
