Amarillo, Texas - The Texas Department of Public Safety is cutting you a break if your driver's license has been suspended for failing to pay state-mandated surcharges.

DPS is offering lower payments to drivers who are suspended and in default on their surcharges, with a one time amnesty program until April 17th. The purpose is to bring drivers into compliance with the surcharge law and become licensed and insured drivers.

You may be eligible if your surcharge was assessed between September 30, 2004 and December 31, 2008. If you qualify, you will pay no more than $250.

To apply, visit or call 1-877-207-3170. The amnesty reduction does not apply to any other fees you may owe the department.
