Your Voice in Local Government May Change

AMARILLO, TEXAS - A small group showed up at Tuesday Amarillo City Commission meeting wanting answers about a rumor they heard that the public comments section of those meetings could be going away forever.

In the two meetings before Christmas, those sections of the agenda had been eliminated because of time issues. Both weeks, there was no chance for people to give their viewpoints in public on city business. And the group worried those opportunities would permanently be going away.

However at the end of Tuesday's meeting the mayor directly addressed those concerns saying the commission values citizens' input and will always take comments, but how and where they take them could be changing.

The Commissioners said they will look for ways to make the comments period more efficient so everyone who wants to speak will get a chance to do so.
