Richardson Visits North Korea

Despite being a world apart, one of our area governors is helping to ease tensions with North Korea.

Before he was New Mexico's governor, Bill Richardson served as the US Secretary of Energy and the US Ambassador to the United Nations - so he's got a lot of experience dealing with nuclear energy issues.

Calling himself a citizen diplomat, Richardson headed to North Korea for talks with high level leaders. He says this visit seemed different than his several previous trips there. Richardson explained the North Koreans were coming out of their reclusive state and were more willing to negotiate.

The governor was able to get North Korea to quote "express willingness" to allow international inspectors into their nuclear facilities.  Those inspectors will make sure the country is not building unauthorized weapons.
