Holiday Gift Warning

AMARILLO, TEXAS - As the race to finish holiday shopping kicks into high-gear this weekend, there's a new warning against buying one certain present.

The Amarillo Humane Society is asking people not to give pets as a present unless you are the parent of a small child.

The shelter says often pets picked out as presents end up right back there after Christmas.

If you're really set on giving a pet related gift, the shelter says there are some good alternatives that can help the animals at the same time.

You can extend the life of an animal in someone's name. Or you can give someone a gift card covering the adoption fees. That way they can pick out their own pet when they're ready.
