AMARILLO, TEXAS - Major security changes are happening at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. The controversial trunk check as you drive on the premise is going away.

Tuesday the Amarillo City Commission approved spending almost $3 million on a new drive into the airport which eliminates the need for the checks.

The new drive does away with the 10-minute parking spaces outside of baggage claim and passenger drop-off. That means cars can't be left unattended by the door anymore so national protocol won't require the checks.

The airport is planning to build a free short-term parking lot a little farther away though. Administrators say you should see the change as soon as April or May.
