Changes for food bank donations

Amarillo, Texas - There's a big change happening this year in how certain foods can be donated to the High Plains Food Bank.

Protein is one of the most needed things at the food bank this year and an obvious source is of course meat... But now the rules are changing as to how hunters can donate meat like venison.

The Food Bank's Zack Wilson says, "Right now we can't accept game that has been shot, and then field dressed and then taken to the processor, mostly because of the factor that we didn't know the conditions it was done in, or the temperature, or the place that it was."

So, now if people want to donate meat, they'll have to bring the animal alive to the processor.

This change comes amid rampant food recall concerns and an increasing appearance of food-born illnesses.
